CPC to be Awarded PTA Founders Day Award
March 11, 2008

The LCUSD PTA has selected the Community Prevention Council for its prestigious Founders Day Award because of its dedicated work in the community on behalf of youth and families.

Accomplishments of the CPC include helping organize programs for parents presented by mental health professionals and the Sheriff’s STAR officer on drug identification and awareness, parenting skills, internet safety and other topics; supporting Red Ribbon Week activities; encouraging use of athlete contracts for local youth sport programs; obtaining funding for a Breathalyzer used at school functions throughout the community; and creating the SafeHomes program to help families keep their children drug and alcohol free.

The topic of the next CPC forum at Paradise Canyon Elementary School on April 4th is “Building Assets to Help Pre-Teens Succeed.”

The CPC recently issued a Teen Summit Report on risky teen activity and distributes the "Small Book of Big Issues", a parent resource guide to support our continuing struggle to combat the illegal use of drugs and alcohol and family problems in our community.

This network of volunteers and organizations dedicated to keeping our community's youth and families free of substance abuse and other problems is an obvious choice for PTA Council’s Founders Day Award.
