Red Ribbon Week Benefits
The Role of Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week will not - nor is it intended to - fix the drug problem in America. There is no single approach to prevention that can eliminate a problem so complex.
The Red Ribbon Celebration is not a prevention or early intervention program. It is a community-wide awareness campaign observed annually in October. We regard Red Ribbon Week as the kick off to a year of prevention in our schools and in our communities. The best Red Ribbon Celebration efforts highlight and support continuing prevention, early intervention and treatment programs and services occurring throughout the community all year long.
The Red Ribbon campaign is also a Call to Action. This week-long campaign provides multiple opportunities for students, parents, teachers, coaches, pastors, city officials and others to join together to address the alcohol, tobacco, other drug and violence related issues or concerns in our community.
