To whom it may concern:

My name is Anthony Baiocco, I graduated from La Canada High School with the class of 2003. I am currently attending the Citadel Military College class of 2007 Delta Company.  I am also a Pfc. with the South Carolina National Guard, serving with the 118th Infantry Regiment ( I completed basic training this past summer out of Ft. Benning, GA). Upon my graduation of the Citadel I will be commissioned as a 2nd LT in the ARMY.  While I attended La Canada I found it very hard to come across information about serving my Nation, as well as getting an education at the same time. Since freshman year I was researching and looking into the Service Academies, ROTC, Senior Military Schools as well as going straight into the ARMY. If possible I would like to offer my assistance to the Alumni Association extending help to any High School student who is interested in serving our nation.  Also if possible I think it would be a great assest to have a link on the website go to a page listing contact information for all Alumni who had served or are serving with the United States Military.  Thank you for hearing my request, and I wish you the best in future endeavours.

Cordially,

Pfc. Anthony Louis Baiocco

So many years have gone buy and it still seems as if it were yesterday, I was walking the halls of L.C.H.S.  I have dreams of going back and seeing all my old friends, but they are not around.

In June of 1965, I couldn't wait to graduate. I had had enough. Well, in July, I was active duty in the Navy Air. I spent the first 6 weeks at Long Beach Naval Base and the week of the Watts' riots, I was  flown to Wake Island, Clark Air force Base Philippines, and then off to Subic Bay PI.  After a week in Subic, I hopped on an oiler ship and after 5 days was bobbing in the South China Sea.

Just fifty miles from Viet Nam.  Then I got a look at this gigantic aircraft carrier coming over the horizon. The USS Coral Sea was coming to get me. It was over 3 times the L.C. football field in length. Wow, this was my home for the next 22 months.

I was assigned a job which was to work with liquid Oxygen. I worked on the flight deck filling the fighter jets oxygen for the pilots to breath at high altitude.  Unfortunately, I filled the oxygen bottle of Reginald Bouder just before he took off and was shot down over North Vietnam. He was never found. I never knew where he was from till I did some research 35 years later. Just didn't ever dream that he was from La Canada. I wish I had known him on ship.

I have been in contact with about 8 of my class mates who served in the military. some of them had some scarry jobs. I will attempt to get them to post their notes on this site.

Last April, Jim Langstrom died. He was the OLDEST IN OUR CLASS which makes him the oldest graduate from LC. Now with his passing, I take the lead because I am the second oldest graduate from LC.  To all that pass in our common halls, I hope that you all agree with me that going to LC was one of the most fortunate trips we will make in our lifetime.

La Canada High School Alumni Association,

Upon reading the posted letter from PFC Baiocco, I decided that
I would also like to offer my assistance for fellow LCHS students that
are interested in the Armed Forces.  I am currently in my last semester
at the United States Military Academy at West Point and will be
commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in a little over
two months.  I will be a Signal Corps officer with my first duty
assignment in Germany.

I am a Mathematical Science major with a Mechanical Engineering
minor and will receive my B.S. upon graduation.  I must credit LCHS's
superb teachers for my 7-time selection for the Dean's list. I owe LCHS
so much for its education and for preparing me for the rigors of college
- and even the military lifestyle. I feel I can repay this debt by
helping current LCHS students out where I can.

I have visited LCHS several times already during my cadet career
to offer information about West Point to those students interested
during "College Info Week" and would like to continue doing so for West
Point, the U.S. Army, or the Armed Forces in general.  I am by no means
an expert in these fields but I do possess general knowledge of the
subject and can point students in the right direction as to where to get
more information.

       Thanks for your time.

Respectfully,

CDT Daniel Cho
